Submit one request for rectification for each degree programme for which you believe the admission decision is incorrect. In each request for rectification, list the errors that pertain to that specific degree programme.
For example, if you applied to three degree programmes and you believe there are errors in the admission decisions for two of them, submit two separate requests for rectification: one for each degree programmes. In your request for rectification, describe all the errors related to that specific admission decision for which you are requesting rectification.
You may only request rectification of decisions concerning master’s programmes that have rejected your application.
Please note if you have applied to several master’s programmes within the same faculty, you may not be admitted to master’s programmes that you have ranked lower in your application preferences than the master’s programme to which you were admitted.
The wording of the request for rectification is free, but it must clearly indicate the degree programme for which you are requesting rectification, for example, in the following way:
"I request that the University of Helsinki rectify the decision regarding my application made in the spring of 2020 for the Master’s Programme in Economics."
The University of Helsinki will rectify an admission decision only if the university has made an error. The request for rectification must specify the decision for which rectification is sought, as well as the type of rectification requested and the grounds for the request.
Please also note the following points:
In the request for rectification, it is not advisable to cite reasons such as the following:
The university has the discretion to decide how many points are awarded for demonstrating certain knowledge and how many points are lost for incorrect statements. If you claim in your request for rectification that the admission criteria are incorrect or have been misapplied, you must precisely specify in what way you believe the admission criteria are incorrect or how they have been misapplied.
In some cases, admission decisions are made partially or entirely based on the information provided by the applicant to the university according to the given instructions and within the given deadlines. If you have acted contrary to the given instructions (for example, failed to submit a required certificate within the deadline), this is not an error for which the university is responsible.
You can submit a request for rectification immediately after you have received an admission decision.
You will be notified of the decision by email when admission results are published. The email message includes the deadline for requests for rectification, as well as instructions for drafting a request for rectification.
The time required for making decisions on requests for rectification depends on many factors. The approximate processing time is one to two months.
Different applicants may receive notification of their rectification requests decision at slightly varying times, even if their requests for rectification concerned the same application.
Unfortunately, Admission Services is unable to consider requests regarding the processing schedule.
The University of Helsinki aims to review requests for rectification in such a manner that you would be able to begin your studies in the autumn.
Yes, you can appeal the decision through the Helsinki Administrative Court. Instructions for making an appeal will be given with the notification of the decision on your request for rectification.
