Urbaria Academics Seminar: Elif Öztekin & Elisa Lähde 9th Nov 11.30-13.00

The purpose of Urbaria Academics seminar is to provide a multidisciplinary forum for presenting and discussing ongoing work on urban-related research. The next meeting with postdoctoral researcher Elif Öztekin and assistant professor Elisa Lähde is in Aalto University on 9th November at 11.30-13.00.

You are warmly welcome to the monthly Urbaria Academics seminar next week on Thursday 9th November at 11.30-13.00 in Aalto University’s Väre Building, room R113 (first floor). You can also attend remotely, please find the link in the end of this message. This month’s speakers are: 

Elif Öztekin is an Urban Academy postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Architecture of Aalto University. Elif has her expertise in the field of design for sustainability transitions.  

Her current research project explores the intersections of urban resilience and sustainability transformations through the lens of capacity-building, and takes participatory urban planning practices as an entry point.  

Elif will present the conceptual foundations of her ongoing research project, and elaborate on three key research themes:   

- adopting a whole-systems approach to urban design and planning,  

- empowering local communities in the processes of decision-making and place-shaping, and 

- investing in learning-centered participatory and collaborative planning approaches. 



Elisa Lähde is an assistant professor of landscape architecture at Aalto University, who is particularly familiar with the co-creative development, planning and research of urban green infrastructures and nature-based solutions. Elisa’s current research activities concentrate on promoting regenerative design and planning approaches by developing tools to identify and consider the values ​​of (urban) landscapes and related ecological processes and operators. 

Elisa will introduce her most recent research project - ARVO - which pursues in collaboration with Helsinki, Espoo and Vantaa. She will also provide comments on Elif’s presentation.  

The talks will be followed by an open discussion.
