Immigrants and Urban Housing Event

Immigrants and Urban Housing event will be held on 16 May 2025 from 15:30 to 16:30 at Tieteiden talo (House of Letters and Sciences), Lisa Hagman Hall, Kirkkokatu 6, 00170 Helsinki.

The event will begin with a 20-minute keynote by Dr. Haoxuan Sa, Post-Doctoral Researcher at the University of Helsinki. She will share insights from her research project, "Immigrants and Urban Housing Diversity: A Comparative Study of Non-Native Population Groups in the Helsinki Metropolitan Area." 

Following the keynote, a 40-minute panel discussion will explore the topic of Immigrants and Urban Housing. Our panelists include:
 

  • Dr. Haoxuan Sa, Post-Doctoral Researcher, University of Helsinki – Dr. Sa specializes in immigrant and urban housing diversity in Helsinki, with a particular focus on Chinese communities
  • Nabila Nur, M.Sc., University of Helsinki – Nabila Nur is conducting research on the housing preferences and choices of the highly educated Somali population as part of Dr. Sa's project
  • Dr. Hanna Dhalmann, Housing Program Manager, City of Helsinki – Dr. Dhalmann has been responsible for Helsinki's housing policy guidance since 2021
  • Daria Tarkhova, Doctoral Researcher, University of Helsinki – Dari Tarkhova is investigating the geopolitical ‘realities’ of Russian-speaking communities in Finland.

At the end of the panel discussion, there will be time for audience questions.

This event offers a valuable opportunity to engage with experts and gain insights into the experiences of diverse immigrant groups with regard to urban housing in Finland.
