Call for applications for
HELSUS FELLOWSHIPS, SEED FUNDING AND INTERNATIONAL VISITORS PROGRAM
Helsinki Institute of Sustainability Science is a cross-faculty research unit in sustainability science within the University of Helsinki. The aim of the HELSUS funding is to enhance the development of sustainability science research in the University of Helsinki, to increase the amount of external research funding for sustainability research, and to promote international research collaboration. To this end HELSUS launches a call for applications for

The call is open for HELSUS members from HELSUS founding faculties: Faculties of Agriculture and Forestry, Arts, Biological and Environmental Sciences, Law, Science, Social Sciences, Monday 22 Jan – Monday 19, Feb 2018.
HELSUS FELLOWSHIPS can be applied for
a.) recruiting a postdoc by a HELSUS member
b.) HELSUS member’s own postdoc funding
The postdoctoral fellowship funding is granted for a period of up to two years and is at most 60 000 per year. The applications will be evaluated based on the quality and innovativeness of the research plan, focus on sustainability science, interdisciplinary quality, and how the application contributes to the development of sustainability science and HELSUS. HELSUS fellows may indicate if they wish to have a working space in the HELSUS Hub in Porthania. HELSUS fellows are expected to participate actively in HELSUS activities. Employment starts as soon as possible, on May 2018 at the latest.
SEED FUNDING can be applied for planning and preparing a research proposal in order to improve the applican’t prospects in securing national or international research funding (eg. Academy of Finland, EU, ERC, Belmont). The funding can be used, for example, for employing a grant writer or for travel expenses. The evaluation criteria are the feasiblity of the plan for preparing the research proposal, focus on key issues in sustainability science, and the way in which the proposal supports the development of HELSUS. At most 30 000€ seed funding can be granted per applicant.
INTERNATIONAL VISITORS PROGRAM FUNDS can be applied for inviting distinguished international researchers in sustainability science for a research visit in HELSUS. For this purpose, a maximum 30 000€ per applicant can be applied. The key evaluation criterion is the feasibility of the plan to support research collaboration with HELSUS researchers, for example, a plan to write a scientific article together.

THE RECEIVED FUNDING HAS TO BE USED WITHIN 2018 (WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE HELSUS FELLOWSHIP)
The outcome of applications will be communicated to all applicants by the week 11.
AVAILABLE FUNDING The total available funding is at least 750 000€ consisting of Rector’s strategic funding, private donations and contributions from the HELSUS founding Faculties. The support from the Faculties vary in size: the share of the Faculty Agriculture and Forestry, of the Faculty of Biological and Environmental Sciences and of the Faculty Social Sciences is larger, and the share of the Faculty of Science, of the Faculty Arts and Humanities,and, of the Faculty Law is smaller.
One person can be the main applicant only in one proposal.
