Impact

The Helsinki Institute of Sustainability Science HELSUS aims for societal impact by acting in a knowledge brokering role, providing synthesized knowledge for the society, mobilizing the research community into active dialogue with society using multiple forms of communication, and by advocating the significance of science-based knowledge in society.

To achieve this, HELSUS publishes a Policy Brief series, co-operates with various public and private sector actors, organises events to foster societal discussion, and provides funding for sustainability science and societal impact at the University of Helsinki.

HELSUS is also one of the hosts of the independent Finnish Expert Panel on Sustainable Development with Natural Resources Institute Finland (Luke) and the Finnish Environment Institute (SYKE).

In addition to active co-operation, HELSUS organises its own events and provides funding for individual researchers and research projects. HELSUS researchers actively participate public debate related to sustainability themes.
