Education and Society

The Education and Society research community is founded on social-scientific approaches to the sociology of education, education policy, the philosophy of education, cultural studies, gender studies, and youth and childhood studies, as well as the perspectives of social inequalities, equality and social justice.

The community is inter- and multidisciplinary, and its focus extends from early childhood education to basic education, educational transitions, higher education and adult education, as well as professional life and questions of sustainable everyday life. The community strengthens social-scientific and societally relevant research by examining the relationships between education and societal change and their consequences, as well as the underlying agendas, and develops ways of teaching and taking a stand in public discourse.
