Dr Kaius Tuori is the director of subproject 1, Law and the Uses of the Past. He is an Associate Professor for European Intellectual History at the University of Helsinki. He is a scholar of legal history involved in research projects on the understanding of tradition, culture, identity, memory and the uses of the past. He is also the director of the research project Law, Governance and Space: Questioning the Foundations of the Republican Tradition.

Dr Pamela Slotte is the director of subproject 2, Discovering the Limits of Reason - Europe and the Crisis of Universalism. She is an Associate Professor (tenure track) in Minority Studies at Åbo Akademi University, an Academy research fellow (Academy of Finland, 2013-2018), as well as PI in the HERA funded research project Protestant Legacies in Nordic Law (2016-2019). She is a scholar of theology and law and has worked on topics of theological ethics and philosophy of religion, history of ideas, political theology, human rights, as well as the field of law & religion more broadly.

Dr Reetta Toivanen is the director of subproject 3, Migration and the narratives of Europe as an "Area of freedom, security and justice". She is Professor of Sustainability Science (indigenous sustainabilities) at the Helsinki University Institute of Sustainability Science (HELSUS). She is the consortium leader of ALL-YOUTH research funded by the Strategic Research Council at the Academy of Finland. She is docent in social and cultural anthropology at the Universities of Helsinki and Eastern Finland and a non-resident research fellow at the European Centre for Minority Issues (ECMI). She is a scholar of anthropology and law involved in research projects addressing power and inequality, culture and identity and Arctic studies.

Dr Jacob Giltaij (MA, Ph.D.) is the team leader of subproject 1, Law and the Uses of the Past. He is a post-doctoral researcher at the Centre for European Studies at the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Helsinki. He has a background in Roman law, legal history and international law, but is interested in the wider implications of the relation between law, legal science and developments in history and society.

Dr Magdalena Kmak is the team leader of subproject 3, Migration and the narratives of Europe as an "Area of freedom, security and justice". She is an associate professor (tenure-track) in Minority Studies at the Faculty of Social Sciences, Business, and Economics at the Åbo Akademi University. Magdalena received her PhD from the Institute of Law Studies, Polish Academy of Sciences and previously she worked as a researcher and university lecturer in international law at the Faculty of Law, University of Helsinki. Magdalena’s current research focuses on undocumented migrants as the new European minority and on the epistemological role of exile for law. Her research interests encompass new minorities, exile studies and history of migration, public international law, human rights and international and European refugee and migration law.

Dr Paolo Amorosa is a post-doctoral researcher in subproject 1, Law and the Uses of the Past. He has a background in international law, law and religion, and legal theory. His research deals primarily with the history of international law and human rights in the twentieth century.

Daria Krivonos is a post-doctoral researcher in subproject 3, Migration and the narratives of Europe as an "Area of freedom, security and justice". She is a sociologist specialising in migration, labour, racialisation and critical race and whiteness. Her PhD thesis has examined young Russian-speakers’ quest for Europeanness through migration to Helsinki with particular focus on their aspirations to become modern through their migratory projects to the ‘West’ and their struggles to claim membership in whiteness. In EuroStorie, she will continue her work on the Eastern margins of Europe, labour, racialisation of whiteness, and postcolonial East/West dynamics of race.

Jukka Könönen is a post-doctoral researcher in subproject 3, Migration and the narratives of Europe as an "Area of freedom, security and justice". His topics of interest include immigration law, irregular migration, labour markets, and the European border regime. He has recently conducted research on the immigration detention and deportation system in Finland. His research will focus on the criminalizing practices in the expulsion on foreign nationals as a part of his own research project “Foreigners’ Crime and Punishment” (funded by the Academy of Finland).

In her PhD research she focuses on the encounters between migrants in irregular situation and civil society in Helsinki, Stockholm and Hamburg.

She is a doctoral candidate in Constitutional Law at the Faculty of Law, University of Helsinki. In her PhD research on “Migration Law and Security”, Mehrnoosh investigates the perceived tension between protecting human rights of immigrants, as opposed to safeguarding the national security of States.
