University of Helsinki's Think Corner – Mission and Event Policy

Think Corner brings science and research into people's everyday lives and is a gateway to the University of Helsinki. We contribute to public discussion with the help of research-based knowledge and create engaging events around current scientific topics. We enhance the visibility of science and researchers, and increase interaction between the University of Helsinki and various societal actors.
Think Corner event policy
  1. Events held at Think Corner have a clear connection to research and science.
  2. The content and format of events are accessible to the general public and suitable for a wide audience.
  3. Events are open to all.

Think Corner reserves the right to assess whether the content and format are appropriate for Think Corner. In the event proposal, the organiser must be able to describe the event's content, purpose, and presenters in sufficient detail to determine its suitability for Think Corner. The organiser cannot unilaterally change the event's content and purpose substantially.

Consider these matters when planning an event at Think Corner
  • Think Corner facilities are not available for party-political, religious, or events that contradict the values of the University of Helsinki.
  • Facilities are not rented for activities that compete directly with or are purely commercial in nature compared to the University of Helsinki. If the event organiser is a company or commercial operator, the event content must take into account connections to science and research.
  • Private individuals cannot book facilities.
  • Think Corner reserves the right to decide when the building's maximum occupancy capacity is reached and when no more guests can be admitted to the event.
Think Corner principles for a safer space

Think Corner is an open venue for critical discussion based on science and research. At Think Corner, we meet each other and different opinions respectfully.

  • We do not tolerate harassment or discrimination. We respect each other’s personal space and take care not to offend anyone with our words or actions.
  • We respect everyone’s right to define and disclose how they identify and experience themselves. We avoid biases and stereotypes related to, for example, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, functional capacity, religion or socio-economic background.
  • We intervene if we observe inappropriate behaviour and offer support to anyone affected by such behaviour.
