Share your expertise
Alumni are a significant resource for the University. Together we can boost the impact of our University, provide even better teaching and produce research in increasingly diverse fields.

As a member of our alumni community, you can choose the best way for yourself to participate: work as a mentor, suggest a master’s thesis topic or share your expertise on a career skills course.
Group mentoring is cooperation between alumni and students at its best

Would you like to mentor students on their first steps into the world of work and network with other mentors?

Students need examples from more experienced alumni to support their studies and inspire their career planning. Now you have an excellent opportunity to help students move towards graduation and employment!

In group mentoring, each mentor guides a group of 2–4 student actors. The actors can talk about the career and employment issues that they want to focus on during mentoring. The group defines its goals and contents itself and works as a team. The advantage of group mentoring is that unlike in individual mentoring, the actors receive both the support of the mentor and peer support from one another.

The programme takes close to six months, and provides a unique opportunity to work as a mentor, get to know students and also find new perspectives on your own career and employment.

Our group mentoring programme starts in the autumn of each year. Every year, we look for University of Helsinki alumni from various fields of society to work as mentors. Join us and be a mentor!

Offer inspiration at a career event

At the Coach Café career events students meet alumni for a few hours of laid-back chats.

Students gain support, tips and coaching around the chosen topic from alumni, and the alumni find out what students expect from the labour market and what student life is like today while maintaining a connection to their alma mater.

Recently graduated alumni are also welcome to join these events to hear about the experiences of alumni who are established professionals.

Depending on the participants, speakers and theme, the event can be organised as discussion in small groups or as free-form chats over coffee with open exchange of experiences and ideas around the chosen theme.

Come speak at a Coach Café and tell your career story!

Come support other alumni

Are you in need of career coaching or are you looking for a mentor? Would you like to mentor or coach other alumni?

Our multidisciplinary and international alumni community provides a unique opportunity for networking and self-betterment in a broad sense. Our alumni come from different backgrounds, which helps create an atmosphere that is inspiring and encourages new kinds of ideas and ways of supporting your expertise.

  • Are you looking for a mentor to help you hone your career goals?
  • Would you like to offer short-term coaching on a specific topic with a colleague from the alumni community, maybe from a multidisciplinary standpoint?
  • Are you interested in serving as a mentor or coach for other alumni?
  • Would you like to set up a small alumni peer group where you could coach each other?
