Adaptive Plasticity Lab

Nidal Karagic research group.

In the face of drastic environmental changes, it has become more important than ever for an organism to rapidly adapt to new circumstances. Adaptive plasticity, the ability to produce multiple adaptive phenotypes from one genotype depending on the environment, provides a mechanism by which individuals, populations and species can cope with changes in the environment without risking extinction.

Our research focuses on adaptive plasticity from an experimental point of view to address some major open questions:

  • What is the mechanism behind adaptive plasticity on a molecular and cellular level?
  • How is adaptive plasticity, in relation to the focal trait, regulated genetically?
  • How does adaptive plasticity influence evolution over multiple generations?
