Practical research training during undergraduate BSc, MSc and Lic (Med, Vet Med, Dentistry) studies can be an empowering experience. HiLIFE Research Trainee Scholarships offer an opportunity to conduct a research training period at a life science research group as a part of voluntary studies (particularly BSc/MSc/Lic thesis). The research group can be selected either at the University of Helsinki or at another research institute abroad. The scholarships are granted once per year.
The call for 2025 trainees has closed on 30.9.2024.
Interviews for selected applicants take place in early November, and the recipients of HiLIFE Research Trainee Scholarship will be announced by mid-November 2024.
For any questions, reach out to hilife-edu@helsinki.fi.
On this call, HiLIFE offered funding to support the University of Helsinki BSc. and MSc. students interested in attending a local (Finnish) or international course, summer school or conference during June - December 2024.
The grant recipients were announced by Wed 22.5.2024.
HiLIFE EDU is not currently planning to open a new Trainee Course / Summer School / Conference Grant in 2025.
HiLIFE has established a postdoc council with members from the Viikki Postdoc Association (ViPA), NC, and FIMM. The goal of this council is to connect postdocs working in different HiLIFE units, as well as share resources and support with the whole HiLIFE postdoc community.
Currently, the postdoc council is represented in HiLIFE EDU work group by Fiona Hagenbeek (fiona.hagenbeek@helsinki.fi).
Once an annum, HiLIFE is offering funding for conference travel to postdoctoral researchers (career level 2) affiliated with HiLIFE, interested in attending conferences. (See further information on career path hierarchy and levels on Flamma).
The grant, of max. €800 (within Europe) and €1300 (other continents), is intended to be used for the registration and travel costs of the conference. If the total costs are higher than what is covered by the grant, the applicant should be prepared to provide supplementing personal funding and/or secure additional financial support from their research group. Please note that the grant will be issued as a refund after the postdoc has attended the selected conference.
Further information can be found in Flamma news (based on the 2025 call details).
The decisions on 2025 grant recipients will be announced during week 17.
