Training
HiLIFE and its units are involved in several educational and training activities. Below you can find more information on the activities supported by the institute, and more unit-specific activities are listed in the unit subpages. Several of the HiLIFE training activities listed here are coordinated by the HiLIFE EDU committee.
HILIFE TRAINEE PROGRAMS

The HiLIFE Trainee programs support UH BSc, MSc and Lic (Med, Med Vet) students in their journey to become scientists.

Practical research training during undergraduate BSc, MSc and Lic (Med, Vet Med) studies can be an empowering experience. HiLIFE Research Trainee Scholarships offer an opportunity to conduct a research training period at a life science research group as a part of voluntary studies (particularly BSc/MSc/Lic thesis). The research group can be selected either at the University of Helsinki or at another research institute abroad. The scholarships are granted once per year.

The latest call closed on October 7, 2022 for selecting the HiLIFE Reseach Trainees for 2023.

HiLIFE is offering funding to support BSc and MSc students interested in attending conferences or courses/training during 2023 spring term. The topics covered in the conference/training should revolve around the field of life sciences or help you further your career in a life science field.

This grant, of max. 300 EUR, is intended to be used for the registration costs of the conference/course. If attending the selected conference/course requires travelling, the applicants should be prepared to secure other means of funding to cover those costs.

Submit your application for a conference grant by filling out this form by 4.00pm EET on December 5, 2022.

HiLIFE EDU committee evaluates the applications and announces the decisions on grant recipients during mid-December 2022.

HILIFE POSTDOC COUNCIL

HiLIFE has established a postdoc council with members from the Viikki Postdoc Association (ViPA), NC, and FIMM. The goal of this council is to connect postdocs working in different HiLIFE units, as well as share resources and support with the whole HiLIFE postdoc community.

One member of the HiLIFE postdoc council is also part of the HiLIFE EDU committee. For more information, please contact Esa-Pekka Kumpula (esa-pekka.kumpula@helsinki.fi), the current chair of the HiLIFE postdoc council.
