Teaching and studying

The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Helsinki is the only place in Finland that offers studies in the field. The Faculty is responsible for the basic training of veterinarians, research in veterinary medicine and the provision of academic postgraduate and continuing education in the field.

Basic education in veterinary medicine takes six years to complete. The Bachelor’s Programme in Veterinary Medicine provides a diverse knowledge base in veterinary medicine and biology, while the Degree Programme in Veterinary Medicine provides students with the qualifications needed to work in the veterinary profession. The programme opens avenues to a broad range of professions for people interested in both animal and human health. After completing basic education in veterinary medicine, veterinarians have the opportunity to specialise or complete a doctoral degree.
