Postgraduate professional education

Extension studies are crucially important to the attainment of the objective of lifelong learning for veterinarians. Veterinarians are legally obligated to maintain their professional skills.
Specialist veterinary training

Specialist veterinary training is a form of postgraduate professional education. The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine provides specialist veterinary training in the following fields: equine medicine, small animal medicine, infectious animal diseases, production animal medicine, general veterinary medicine, and environmental health and food control. The specialist training programme in general veterinary medicine may include an emphasis on veterinary inspection.

In addition to national specialist veterinary training, veterinarians can complete a European specialist diploma (Diplomate) The European Board of Veterinary Specialisation (EBVS)

Licensing examinations

In order to receive a license to practice the profession of veterinary surgeon, persons who have completed a degree in a third country, meaning a country outside the European Union or European Economic Area, must, as a rule, complete additional studies in Finland. As well, sufficient skills in Finnish or Swedish are required.

Extension studies

The Faculty participates in the implementation of extension studies by offering some of its courses to already practising veterinarians. More information in Finnish.
