In Finland, the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Helsinki is the only institution that offers studies in the field. The Faculty is responsible for the basic training of veterinarians, research in veterinary medicine and the management of academic postgraduate and continuing education in the field.

The training programme in veterinary medicine at the University of Helsinki has been evaluated and approved by the European Association of Establishments for Veterinary Education (EAEVE) and is widely recognised. Please find accreditation status and reports here.

Studies primarily take place on the Viikki Campus, although studies in production animal medicine are also completed in the Saari unit in the municipality of Mäntsälä.

The One Health philosophy is emphasised throughout the education: Animals and humans share several aspects of life, including health, welfare and the environment, and veterinary surgeons play an important role in the overall equation.
