The theme of Physics Days 2019 is "Enjoying Physics". We will explore various fascinating subjects where physics can emerge in a surprising and often very cross-disciplinary way, thus inspiring new research. Internationally recognized top scientists have been invited as plenary speakers to underscore this exciting and multifaceted theme.
As appetizers, there will be, e.g., plenary lectures on the physics of food, the physics of music linked to the beating of your heart, as well as ways to use virtual reality in science, and many more! The conference culminates in a thrilling PechaKucha-session on Visions of Physics in the Future Society!
Physics Days are a great opportunity for students and graduate students to present their own research, either as a poster, or a talk in the parallel sessions. There will also be sessions of the Finnish Physical Society: a teaching workshop, division meetings, the meeting of Finnish Women in Physics and the 53rd Annual Meeting. A traditional vendor exhibition will also be held on the first and second floor close to the poster presentation area.
In addition, we organize a workshop for teachers as well as an open Studia Generalia lecture. IOP Chapter Finland and Finnish Academy (AIPSE programme) also organize their sessions during the conference.
The social programme of Physics Days offers excellent opportunities for networking in a particularly enjoyable atmosphere. On Tuesday evening we will all gather at Helsinki City Hall for the official City Reception hosted by the Mayor, and on Wednesday we will have our Conference Dinner at Restaurant Bank.
We are planning to arrange a possibility for child care during the conference.
The event is jointly organized by the Finnish Physical Society, Department of Physics of the University of Helsinki and Helsinki Institute of Physics. We are looking forward to enjoying physics with you in March 2019!
