Social media images are horizontal, square, vertical or banner images (a low height horizontal image). Please check the right image sizes and images’ exclusion zones from the social media channels’ own instructions. Texts are primarily aligned to the left. If the text is centralized, also the logo should be centralized. In a square image form the logo is primarily located in the lower right hand corner.
Please make sure the text is accessible (with enough contrast). Primarily the image fullfills the whole area and text will be placed on top of the image (in white). Headlines are in upper case letters, subheadings in lower case letters. Please remember to check the typography instructions (see Video typography).
If the social media channel’s profile picture states for example the name of the project, the University of Helsinki’s flame logo may be in the cover image of the profile (on top of a picture).
No cover image is used in the videos produced for social media channels.
Videos produced by the University of Helsinki can start with a header text briefly describing the content of the video. The headers are to be aligned to the top left corner of the screen, 75 px away from the edges. The size of any subheaders should be approximately 50% of the size of the main header.

A white, transparent watermark will appear as a fade-in in the top right corner of the video as soon as the main header of the video has disappeared. The watermark will remain until the end screen of the video. The watermark must be used both in high-quality 16:9 videos and social media videos.

In social media videos and videos with no opening screen, the watermark will be visible from the very beginning of the video.
When you are having a video produced, also ask for a version without the watermark, graphics and music so that a possible editing to different channels will be easier.

Names and titles of interviewees are to be positioned 75px away from the top left corner of the video area. First and last names are to be positioned on separate lines.
All videos must have subtitles for accessibility reasons. If you are having a video produced ask for a) a version of the video without subtitles + SRT file and b) a version where subtitles are burnt into the video. If a social media channel offers the possibility to use a separate SRT file please use it (for example Youtube). This enables making subtitles in several languages and the user chooses the language they want. Black boxes behind the subtitles ensure accessibility.
Subtitles are to be centred 80px from the bottom edge of the video area.
Remember you choose a presentable thumbnail for you video. The picture shows for example when you share a link of a video placed in Youtube. The picture also shows in the Youtube channel.
If the video production cannot use the University’s brand typeface, Gotham Narrow, alternative fonts from the free Arial typeface may be used. The same letter, line and paragraph spacing guidelines used for Gotham Narrow also apply to the Arial fonts.
