Call for Applications: ReNEW Emerging Scholars' Day

We invite all emerging scholars to participate in the fourth Emerging Scholars’ Day held at the University of Iceland 21 May, the day before the 7th Nordic Challenge conference in Reykjavík.

Purpose

The fourth ReNEW Emerging Scholars’ Day will be held at the University of Iceland on 21 May 2024, preceding the 7th Nordic Challenges Conference: Uncertain Futures: Nordic (In-)Securities, New Geopolitics and Societal Ruptures, at the University of Iceland (22–24 May). This multidisciplinary training day welcomes applications from PhD candidates and postdocs working on Nordic topics. The Emerging Scholars’ Day includes the chance to meet other PhD and postdoctoral researchers, get feedback on your research project from senior academics, and participate in discussions on resources and opportunities available to scholars studying the Nordic region.

Format

Participants can either present their research project in the form of a poster, a draft chapter of their thesis, or a draft journal article. In this way, we want to cater both to participants who are still in the early stages of a project and to those who are closer to submitting their work. Posters, chapters, and articles will be commented on by senior scholars and discussed in the seminar. The posters will also be exhibited during the Nordic Challenges Conference.

How to apply

For successful applicants, participation in the Emerging Scholars’ Day and dinner after the academic session is included in the registration fee to the main conference. To apply, send us a one-page CV and make sure to specify whether you want to present a poster, a chapter, or an article.

Applications should be submitted  – by 10 April 2024 – to this email address: eddacenter@hi.is.

Posters, chapters, and articles need to be submitted by 10 May 2024

The Early Career Paper Prize

Please also consider submitting your paper to compete for the Early Career Paper Prize of 1300 EUR. The prize will be awarded during the conference dinner 22 May. You are eligible if you are a PhD student or have submitted your PhD thesis within the last three years.
