Decades of work in music neuroscience: from the laboratory towards the richness of music

During the past months, Dr. Mari Tervaniemi has launched two review papers that address an important feature of scientific studies.

The first review paper, published in Frontiers in November 2022 had a focus in the ecological validity of the auditory paradigms in brain studies, in particular, in studies conducted using the MMN paradigm. The second one, featured in the cover of May 2023 issue of Trends in Neurosciences, had a more general scope in the neuroscience of music regarding the expansion of the variety of musical behaviors and musical phenomena are getting coverage by the studies.

This could be called revolution since, as reviewed in the paper, the studies originally were conducted with rigid auditory paradigms in the laboratory setting, often neglecting the richness of music as such.
