Laboratory services and equipment

The laboratory at TZS has several rooms with dry lab space for analyses, sample preparation and handling. A variety of equipment is available in the laboratory in addition to standard equipment such as pH- and conductivity meters, oxygen titrator, ice machine, incubators, water baths, vacuum pumps, magnetic stirrers, ultrasonic cleaners and water filtering. To ensure smooth work in the laboratory please contact the TZS laboratory staff well in advance.

New molecular laboratory

NEW! The molecular laboratory at TZS is suitable for the collection and processing of various environmental DNA/RNA samples. It is a clean lab equipped with a fume hood, a clean bench, and necessary equipment for nucleic acid extractions including a centrifuge, vortexes, pipettes, magnetic extraction racks, a thermomixer and a loop sterilizer. DNA/RNA quality and concentration can be measured with the EzDrop spectrophotometer and the Qubit fluorometer. In addition, we have a separate post-PCR space with an Eppendorf thermocycler and agarose gel electrophoresis equipment for nucleic acid amplification and visualization. With these new facilities, environmental DNA and RNA samples can be processed directly after sampling, reducing the risk of nucleic acid degradation during storing and shipping.

All laboratory analyses are ordered through a separate order form for laboratory analyses, services, and supplies. Note that all the users of the laboratory facilities must take part in the yearly safety orientation with laboratory staff prior to starting the work.
