Announcing the interdisciplinary HEPP2 conference that gather over 200 scholars around the world to discuss emotions, populism and polarisation.

The Second conference in our series of Helsinki Emotions, Populism and Polarisation #HEPP2 will take place 4-8 May virtually in the conditions of the pandemic. Our keynotes Bice Maiguashca, Silvio Waisbord, and our own stars Johanna Sumiala and Katja Valaskivi. These will be aired and made available also afterwards through our channels. We are having 200+ participants and 150+ presentations all around the world and hence five long days of interaction. The sessions are recorded for conference attendees use. Which we hope to get more by using Microsoft Teams.

This Conference is organised by Academy of Finland projects, the Mainstreaming Populism in the 21st Century consortium led by Juha Herkman whose closing conference this is, and Emilia Palonen's project Whirl of Knowledge: Cultural Populism and Polarisation in European Politics and Societies, in cooperation with Kone foundaton funded Now-Time Us-Space and Europen Commission D.Rad project - all HEPPsinki core projects.

We are happy to support active engagement between scholars in different generations and different reserach projects currently exploring themes in Europe and beyond: the US, Australia, Latin America, and Japan. And we are very excited about the conference.

The HEPPsinki research group was founded a year ago to gather the diverse projects under the same heading. It was also the home of the two interlinked and successful Helsinki Summer School (HSS) courses that provided scholarly interaction across borders, until the recent news by the university that the HSS has been discontinued.
