HELSUS is entering a new era with a new Director and a new Steering Group

The Steering Group started and got organised on the 11th September 2025, and the new Director will start at the beginning of 2026.

First, we want to congratulate Professors and  who started as the Chair and vice Chair of HELSUS Steering Committee, respectively. Both are committed long-term HELSUS supporters and great academics not afraid of speaking for/of important sustainability viewpoints.

We are also glad to inform you that Professor has been appointed by the Rector of the University of Helsinki as the new Director of HELSUS, starting on 1st January 2026.

Professor Raymond serves as Professor of Sustainability Science in the Ecosystems and Environment Research Program, Faculty of Biological and Environmental Sciences, and the Department of Economics and Management, Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry, and he leads the Human–Nature Transformations Research Group. He is a prominent figure in international sustainability research and currently acts as Executive Director of the International Association of Society and Natural Resources as well as Director of the MUST Strategic Research Council Project. He has studied different ways to identify, assess and incorporate diverse nature values into just and sustainable transformations as well as into nature-based solutions planning. Prior to his academic career, he led his own environmental consultancy practice and worked in environmental policy for the South Australian Government.

Please do not hesitate to contact the coordination team or the new Director, Chair and Vice chair for developing HELSUS, sustainability science or transformation actions!
