The discipline focuses on a diverse and heterogeneous region with a rich cultural heritage. Through the region’s special characteristics, attention is given also to global themes, including historical, economic and social questions, as well as the problematics of development, nature and the environment. Latin American Studies in Helsinki is a founding partner of the network of the Nordic Institute of Latin American Studies, NILAS.
