Addressing the Climate-Health-Nature Nexus – from Cities to the EU

Join GoGreenRoutes, ICLEI Europe, the City of Lahti, and the Lahti University Campus for a discussion of leaders on 13th of February at 17.15 – 18.15 CET online or onsite in Finland (18.00 - 19.15 EET) at the People and Planet conference. 

  • Lahti and Lyon, the forerunner cities of planetary health and one health, respectively, will share their paths to implementing holistic approaches for wellbeing and sustainable futures.  

  • The discussion will explore discourses and growing momentum on better incorporation of One Health and Planetary Health approaches in the EU.  Panelists will address enabling factors for existing EU policy framework for uptake and implementation by cities. 

  • Conversation will highlight the local ambitions and the European standpoint on One Health and Planetary Health, bringing the environmental and health policies to the forefront and provide a platform for political leaders, researchers and policy makers in the field of environment and health to create an actionable pathway to integrating such approaches to research, policies and practice. 

The discussion will be facilitated by professor Sirkku Juhola (University of Helsinki). The panelists are as follows: 

  • Peter Defranceschi, Director of the ICLEI Europe Brussels office and Director of ICLEI's global CityFood program
  • Celine de Laurens, Deputy Mayor of Lyon City
  • Niko Kyynäräinen, Mayor of Lahti City
  • Sirpa Pietikäinen, Member of the European Parliament
