Aleksanteri Institute Visiting Fellows Programme

The Aleksanteri Institute Visiting Fellows Programme provides an opportunity for highly qualified scholars in Russian, Eastern European and Eurasian studies to visit the Aleksanteri Institute and the University of Helsinki for a period of two months.

During the fellowship, Aleksanteri Visiting Fellows work on their research projects and benefit from interaction with scholars at the Aleksanteri Institute and elsewhere in Finland. Each Visiting Fellow has two academic hosts who are working on a related theme and who help them to settle in and establish contacts with the research community in Finland. Visits are supported with a monthly grant.

Since 2008, the Visiting Fellows Programme has hosted over 180 Visiting Fellows working on various fields and themes within the social sciences and humanities, coming from 30 countries from Europe through North America to China.

The call for proposals for the academic year 2026-2027 was open until 28 March 2026. We would like to warmly thank all the applicants for their interest in the programme. We received 105 applications and invited five scholars to the Aleksanteri Institute as Visiting Fellows.
