During the fellowship, Aleksanteri Visiting Fellows work on their research projects and benefit from interaction with scholars at the Aleksanteri Institute and elsewhere in Finland. Each Visiting Fellow has two academic hosts who are working on a related theme and who help them to settle in and establish contacts with the research community in Finland. Visits are supported with a monthly grant.
Since 2008, the Visiting Fellows Programme has hosted over 170 Visiting Fellows working on various fields and themes within the social sciences and humanities, coming from 30 countries from Europe through North America to China.
In the call for proposals in 2024, we received a large number of exceptionally good applications. From among 135 applicants, we are delighted to welcome eight Visiting Fellows, two of whom will be joining us with funding dedicated to support Ukrainian scholars. Information on a call for proposals from 2026 onwards will be updated later in 2025.
