Christine "Tina" Namdar has been working as a special education teacher with youth in socio-economically deprived areas of Stockholm over the last 6 years. Having started studying sociology at Lund University, Tina acquired a Bachelor’s degree in sociology from the University of Warwick, UK, and subsequently completed a Master’s by research at the same institution where she developed her research interests in cosmopolitanism and normative sociological perspectives. Her research led her to interviewing human rights lawyers at the War Crimes Tribunal looking at factors that influence initiatives to address social injustices in the context of international law. She went on to work at the Warwick Business School Center for small and medium-sized enterprises, investigating businesses’ sense of community responsibility. Recently, Tina obtained a Bachelor’s degree in education and teacher certification from Stockholm University, in order to be able to pursue her passion to work as a teacher.
Over the years, Tina has worked and volunteered in numerous settings across many countries, mainly with disadvantaged and disenfranchised youth, such as a literacy project in Botswana, and NGO work in India. Having lived in four different countries and worked in and visited many more, Tina has personal cosmopolitan experience and is fluent in English, Finnish, Persian and Swedish. Furthermore, having been an immigrant student and encountered some of the prejudicial treatment that can involve, she can easily relate to some of the central experiences of the youth whose potential she will be studying. She states, "Youth, in general, are seldom regarded in terms of their positive potentials, though the rhetoric is about them being our future".
