Kurssi: Nordic probabilistic seismic hazard analysis

Tervetuloa osallistumaan 17-19.4.2023 Kumpulan kampuksella järjestettävään "Nordic Seismic Hazard Analysis"-kurssille! Kurssi pidetään englanniksi ja se on suunnattu pohjoismaisille alan opiskelijoille, tutkijoille, työntekijöille ja muille aiheesta kiinnostuneille.
Kurssin esittely (englanniksi)

The new European Seismic Hazard Map (ESHM20) is a Pan-European product and has inspired many related discussions among Nordic seismologists. However, it is not meant to replace national and/or regional efforts. It also poses some problems, such as a fairly high magnitude threshold, which means that the hazard calculation was based on a small number of earthquakes. Recent national projects have also investigated probabilistic seismic hazard analysis (PSHA) locally. This has motivated Nordic actors to organise together a training course/workshop focusing on low-seismicity regions.

The 3-day free-of-charge course will review PSHA with emphasis on the Fennoscandian peninsula. The lectures will begin with an introduction to PSHA, followed by specific sessions about earthquake catalogs and other input data, seismic source modelling, ground-motion variability, intensity measures and ground- motion prediction equations, hazard computation and analysis of the results. Guided hands-on exercises are included.

The lectures are given by four experts:

  • Mathilde Sørensen, University of Bergen
  • Niranjan Joshi, University of Uppsala
  • Päivi Mäntyniemi, Institute of Seismology, University of Helsinki
  • Amir Sadeghi-Bagherabadi, Institute of Seismology, University of Helsinki

Institute of Seismology, University of Helsinki is warmly welcoming all interested to take part in this course!

Registration is requested, but there is no registration fee. Lunches are included for registered participants. There is also possibility to ably for a travel grant to cover accommodation and travel expenses from Nordic countries.
