Admissions criteria at the Viikki Teacher Training School

Grades 1–6

Local school policy
Pupils in the Viikki Teacher Training School catchment area have the right to attend their local school. If there is room in the school’s admissions quota after these primary admissions, we will also admit pupils who live elsewhere in Helsinki on the following grounds:

Ensuring the development and diversity of teaching practice through a suitable selection of subjects

This is the duty assigned to the teacher training schools by the Ministry of Education and Culture. The mission of the teacher training schools is to diversify and develop teaching practice in close collaboration with their affiliate university and teacher training schools. The teacher training schools must ensure the quality of curriculum design and teaching.

Random selection 

The Viikki Teacher Training School does not cover pupils’ school transport expenses. 

The Viikki Teacher Training School does not apply the primary and secondary admissions criteria of the City of Helsinki.

Grades 7–9

Sixth-graders at the Viikki Teacher Training School

Sixth-grade pupils at the Viikki Teacher Training School whose local school is not the Viikki Teacher Training School are required to have the Viikki Teacher Training School as their primary choice.

Local school policy: Pupils from the Viikki Teacher Training School catchment area

If there is room in the school’s admissions quota after pupils are admitted based on the above-mentioned grounds, we will also admit pupils who live elsewhere in Helsinki on the following grounds (3 and 4):
