Pupil and student participation

Norssi is a learning environment that encourages active engagement. At our school, pupils, students, teachers and other staff members appreciate each other, and each member of the school community is important and valuable. Our pupils and students learn and practice various skills and gain knowledge, and they are offered plenty of opportunities to present their skills and artistic expression in school events. Each pupil and student is treated as an individual whose learning and self-esteem is supported. Pupils and students are also guided to observe the world around them, and council and tutoring activities allow them to impact their school community.

All pupils in grades 7–9 can run for a seat on the pupil council board when a new board is elected. The comprehensive school pupil council board is formed each autumn at the beginning of the new school year, and the board’s term lasts from the beginning of the autumn term to the end of the following spring term.

The pupil council board takes part in the work of the school’s key decision-making bodies. The pupil council board’s meeting minutes are usually public documents that anyone can access.

The comprehensive school pupil council board collaborates with the upper secondary school student council board. Together, the council boards aim to represent and serve Norssi’s pupils and students in the best possible way. If there is anything you think the council boards should address or that could be improved, contact us! You can come talk to us in the hallway at school or contact us by email or on Facebook.

The upper secondary school student council includes all students at the Helsinki Normal Lyceum general upper secondary school. All students can vote and stand in the student council board elections that elect the student council board at the beginning of each school year. The board makes proposals and gives reports on matters pertaining to upper secondary school students and organises various events and activities for students. The student council also promotes student satisfaction by making agreements with various companies, including vending machine suppliers.
