Master-level students come to the University of Helsinki from many different educational backgrounds. That's why some of the new Master-level students may be required to complete supplementary studies. The purpose of the supplementary studies is to ensure that the student reaches the readiness for completing the Master-level degree.
Because of the purpose of the supplementary studies, they should be completed at the beginning of the studies. If supplementary studies are required of a student, he or she cannot graduate without completing them.
In some faculties or programmes, the supplementary studies can be included in the minimum scope of the Master-level degree (120 credits). In other faculties or programmes, the supplementary cannot be included in the scope of the Master-level and must thus be completed in addition to the minimum scope of the Master-level degree.
More information about supplementary studies is available from your Personal Study Plan instructor or the student counsellor of your faculty or programme.
