Apply to doctoral programmes
The University of Helsinki has 32 doctoral programmes, divided under four doctoral schools. Doctoral study rights are applied to from the programmes. Study rights are applicable 2–5 times a year, depending on the doctoral programme. Call for applications for new university-funded doctoral candidate positions is opened once a year.

The University of Helsinki is an international research environment: one fourth of our doctoral candidates are international students. Completing a doctoral degree in English is possible in all our doctoral programmes. No tuition fees are charged of doctoral students, but as a doctoral student, you are expected to cover your costs for living and accommodation. Approximately a quarter of our doctoral students complete their doctoral research in an employment relationship with the University.
