Theoretical Evolutionary Biology

We develop mathematical models to address fundamental questions in evolutionary biology. Our work combines methods from evolutionary game theory, optimal control theory, adaptive dynamics, and population genetics. The current focus of our research team is life history theory, the evolution of senescence, the evolution of menopause and sex-specific differences in ageing and immunity. We also study how kin selection and intergenerational transfers affect trait evolution, and how phenotypic plasticity affects life-history traits.

We're hiring!

We are looking for a Postdoctoral Researcher in Theoretical Evolutionary Biology to work on the evolution of sex-specific differences in immunity and life history traits.

You'll develop mathematical models (optimal control theory, life history modelling, adaptive dynamics) to understand how natural selection shapes sex-specific immune strategies and be part of our interdisciplinary consortium Sex Differences in Immunity.

3-year position at Viikki Campus, Helsinki. Ideal start: March–September 2026. Applications open until 28 Feb 2026.
