Piret Avila, PhD Academy Research Fellow
I am a theoretical evolutionary biologist at the University of Helsinki's Faculty of Biological and Environmental Sciences. My research uses mathematical modelling and optimal control theory to understand the evolution of ageing, life history traits, and evolution of social behaviour.
Before joining Helsinki in 2024, I held positions at the Institute for Advanced Study in Toulouse (IAST) and the University of Lausanne. I received my PhD from the University of Jyväskylä in 2017.
I study the evolution of aging through mathematical modeling, specializing in life history theory, adaptive dynamics, and evolutionary game theory.
