Eduleaders

The aim of the EduLeaders project is to develop and evaluate basic-level studies in leadership in education, and based on this information, develop advanced-level studies in the field for different levels of teacher education.

In the project, new, up-to-date curriculum is being developed, based on evaluation of on-going in-service trainings in leadership of educational institutions funded by the Ministry of Education and Culture. Based on the gained experiences and knowledge, a curriculum and model suitable for basic and advanced-level studies in leadership in training and education, as well as objectives, content, implementation, and evaluation of the studies, will be developed. The aim of the project is to evaluate both participants’ and experts’ viewpoints on the applicability of the training for different, demanding expert positions that require leadership in education.

Aims

In the first stage, the UH in-service training in leadership in education is evaluated. Those participating in the training will be interviewed, and they will respond to a questionnaire. Also specialists in charge of the management and development of the field of education will be interviewed.

Participants as well as the specialists will, for example, be asked to evaluate the accuracy, comprehensiveness, and content relevance of different elements of the study module, such as organisational leadership, staff management, pedagogical leadership, and leadership culture, from the point-of-view of the training and the competences required for leadership in the field of education.  Another starting point for the development work is also familiarisation with international research and development projects. The basic-level study module of leadership in training and education will be developed and elaborated based on these.

In the second stage, a curriculum for advanced-level studies in leadership in education will be created. This curriculum will be tested, and 25 leaders in early-childhood or comprehensive education with basic studies or equivalent in the field will be trained via in-service training. The in-service training to be implemented will include continuous evaluation and development. Participating leaders will be thoroughly interviewed, and the created curriculum will be elaborated based on the experiences. Variants of the leadership in training and education study modules (basic-level studies 25 ECTS credits, advanced-level studies 35 ECTS credits) suitable for international Master’s education will be created, as well as products suitable for educational import in collaboration with HY+.
