University of Helsinki, established in 1640, is the largest and most versatile research university in Finland doing pioneering multidisciplinary research with 11 faculties and over 36 000 students and researchers. The participating research groups belong to the Faculty of Medicine, Research Programs Unit (Anne Salonen), and the Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry (Anne-Maria Pajari).  

Research Programs Unit (RPU) of the Faculty of Medicine consolidates demonstrated research excellence in translational research, with nine focused research programs addressing the greatest challenges in human health. RPU is located in the Meilahti campus in Helsinki. 

The Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry is a nationally unique faculty in Finland with a high international standing. Research and education in the faculty address questions relating to the utilisation of renewable resources, agriculture and food, forests and materials, as well as waterways and water use. Department of Food and Nutrition of the Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry responds to sustainability challenges associated with the food system. Research groups within the department focus on production techniques and raw materials used in food, the properties of various biological materials as food product ingredients, food products and packaging materials, bioprocessing, and nutrition and food in the promotion of health and prevention of diseases. The Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry is located in the Viikki campus in Helsinki.
