Double Materiality Assessment at Viikki Research Farm

Viikki Research Farm, in the heart of Helsinki, has completed a pioneering Double Materiality Assessment (DMA) under the COVERE² initiative, revealing 91 material sustainability issues out of 120 identified.
Viikki Research Farm as a model for climate-smart and responsible agriculture

The findings highlight Viikki’s strong social and governance performance, with secure jobs, public engagement, and high animal welfare standards. Climate change emerged as both a major risk and a prime opportunity, positioning Viikki as a model for climate-smart agriculture.

Supported by a targeted Gap Analysis, the farm now has a clear roadmap to reduce emissions, strengthen value chain accountability, and expand circular practices.

As part of the University of Helsinki, Viikki is proving that research farms can lead the way in responsible, future-ready food systems.
