Detailed descriptions of events organised at the University are in the programme below. We hope to see you there!
GREAT HALL OF THE UNIVERSITY (Aleksanterinkatu 5, 2nd floor)
The University’s Great Hall will host an evening of rock, with Jytäjyrsijät kicking it off before giving the floor to Rectors’ Nightmare.
17–18 Jytäjyrsijät
Jytäjyrsijät is a children’s rock band that has been playing lively tunes for children and the young at heart since 1996. Jytäjyrsijät performs an eclectic setlist where the age of the target audience is betrayed only by the lyrics.
19–20 Rectors' Nightmare - Just a (Professors'?) Rock Band
The members of the band are Jussi Pakkasvirta, Juhana Aunesluoma, Titus Hjelm, Raija Cser, Markus Mervola, Ritva Nyberg ja Heikki Ruismäki.
THINK CORNER (Yliopistonkatu 4)
17–18 LexComics comic strip art exhibition
The LexComics exhibition explores the impact of rapidly evolving technology on society. What is the role of humans and machines in law? What problems could arise, for example, with smart street lights or the use of technology to predict crimes?
The exhibition will be open throughout the evening, and the exhibition working group will be available from 17.00 to 18.00. Read more information about the exhibition on the Think Corner website.
18–20 Drink & Draw
Join us to draw while enjoying refreshments, mocktails, wine or beer sold at Tiedekulma Café. The Kolmiotaajuus band, which plays electronic music, transforms visual art into music.
HELSINKI UNIVERSITY MUSEUM FLAME: Observatory and Art Room
16–21 Music flows at the Observatory (Kopernikuksentie 1)
In the dark of the Meridian Room, you will journey for a moment to another reality, as minimalist and meditative percussion and flute music fills the old astronomical observation room. You can move freely in the space and stay for as long as you like. Martta Jämsä and Tiia Toivanen will perform a varied programme of pieces from Glass, Heiny, Satie, Sibelius, Umezaki and other composers. The musicians will perform without pause from 17.30 to 20.30, with brief intervals.
Open until 21.00, the exhibitions at the Observatory take visitors from our solar system to distant galaxies. Entry to the event is free of charge.
16.30–19.30 Fencers at the Art Room (Porthania, Yliopistonkatu 3, 7th floor)
On the Night of the Arts, Thursday 14 August 2025, from 16.30 to 19.30, the University of Helsinki Art Room will welcome some former neighbors: members of the University Fencing Club will serve as croquis models for the evening. The session is led by visual artist and University of Helsinki Drawing Master Vappu Rossi.
The evening operates on a non-stop, drop-in basis. Bring your own sketchbook or drawing pad and your preferred drawing tools. Basic materials will also be available to borrow at the Art Room. No previous experience in croquis drawing (or fencing!) is required. Entry to the event is free of charge.
