The University of Helsinki is putting together a consortium to buy the Old Student House from the Student Union of the University of Helsinki.
The consortium includes both public and private actors. The aim is to safeguard the Old Student House by setting up a foundation to manage the property.
The project is currently supported by the University of Helsinki, the Finnish government and the City of Helsinki. The private sector participants include the Kone Foundation, the Niilo Helander Foundation and the official music corporations of the Student Union.
The consortium aims to establish the foundation and submit a bid to the Student Union of the University of Helsinki within a short timeframe.
The Old Student House has considerable cultural and historical value. The parties involved in the project want to safeguard the valuable cultural heritage of the building, its current activities and the promotion of student culture more widely.
The University of Helsinki is responsible for setting up the foundation and other administrative matters.
