At the same time, they agreed on practicalities related to the termination of Rosebud’s lease in Kaisa House lease and its vacation of the premises. The bookshop’s lease at Kaisa House ends at the end of January 2026.
“We all want to preserve Rosebud’s important role on the City Centre Campus. This is why we have agreed to focus on event collaboration in the future. Further details will be determined in the coming weeks,” says Rector Sari Lindblom of the University of Helsinki.
“In September, we have had several discussions with the University leadership. Our roundtable meetings have been constructive, and the atmosphere has been positive. The discussions had no effect on the termination of the lease. On a practical level, we have agreed on flexible arrangements related to the end of our lease and relocation. We also agreed that our operations at Think Corner will continue. At the same time, we agreed on a significant increase in event collaboration, where there is a lot of untapped potential for both parties,” says Managing Director Hannu Paloviita.
“Our time in Kaisa House has been wonderful. We believe that the past four years have left a lasting mark on Finnish cultural life. We thank our loyal customers as well as the cultural and academic community for the extensive feedback and support we have received over that period. We are looking for new facilities where we will continue to follow the same dedicated content policy,” Paloviita says.
The termination of the lease of the Rosebud Sivullinen bookshop has elicited a great deal of discussion, particularly within the University community.
“This discussion has naturally affected our consideration of what collaboration with Rosebud could be like in the future. Rosebud is a valuable operator from the University’s perspective, as it communicates research-based knowledge in a manner that brings the community together,” Rector Lindblom says.
The University of Helsinki’s collaboration with Rosebud Books will continue at the University’s Think Corner.
