Enablers of change – The role of universities in sustainability transition

Transition to a more sustainable and responsible society is necessary. Universities have both the opportunity and the responsibility to make a difference. What are the roles of universities in building a more sustainable world? Welcome to follow the discussion on 23 March 2022 from 1 pm onwards.

Universities’ core tasks include research, teaching and societal interaction. How can universities use these tasks to build a more sustainable and responsible world? And how can universities' everyday activities be used to support sustainability change in the wider society?

We will discuss this topic in the Think Corner* (Yliopistonkatu 4, Helsinki) on 23 March 2022 at 13-14.30.

The panel will include Riikka Heikinheimo (EK), Susanna Lehvävirta (HELSUS), Suvituuli Lundmark (SYL) and Mari Pantsar (Sitra). The event can also be followed via a live stream.

The panel discussion will be preceded by speeches by Anita Lehikoinen, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Culture, and Riina Koivuranta, Specialist in Sustainability and Responsibility at the University of Helsinki. The event will be opened by Tom Böhling, Vice Rector of the University of Helsinki.

The first Sustainability and Responsibility Plan of the University of Helsinki for 2022-2024 and the University of Helsinki Sustainability Highlights report will be published at the event.
