Lapland’s Dark Heritage research project (Universities of Helsinki and Oulu) is organizing, together with the Siida Sámi Museum, a public excavation at a Second World War (WWII) German hospital site in Inari, Lapland, on 1.–5.8.2016. Pre-registered volunteers will take part in the excavations along with researchers and University students. There will be two open tours of the excavation site, one on Tuesday and other on Thursday. In addition, the program of the week involves public lectures, a story event to share local history and a walking tour around the war historical sites of Inari village. The speakers include two international guests who specialize in battlefield and conflict archaeology. All these events are free.
