The University of Helsinki’s campaign Tekoja maailman parhaaksi (acts for a better world) has received a total of EUR 48 million in donations. Of that sum, a total of about EUR 35 million of which is eligible for matching donations.
The educational sectors that received the largest total amount of matching donations were medicine, at about EUR 6 million, and teacher education, at about EUR 9 million. The precise final sum in euros collected by the fundraising campaign of will become clear only later this year, when the amount of matching funding from the Finnish State is announced.
Over one thousand donors contributed to the campaign. More than half of the donations came from foundations, just under one-third from private individuals, and just over one-fifth from businesses and the rest of the private sector.
The Chancellor of the University of Helsinki, Thomas Wilhelmsson, is grateful to all those who donated to the university’s campaign.
“Every single donation is important to us. I wish to thank all the donors and other participants for helping the University of Helsinki to continue to develop its research and teaching at a high international standard.” Although the campaign is now over, fundraising for the University of Helsinki continues. Donations to the university will continue to be tax-deductible.
Of the return on donated funds, several million euros will be distributed annually by the University of Helsinki to various university research projects. The work of more than a hundred professors and other experts will be funded in this way. In addition, more than EUR 600,000 from the university’s donation fund will be distributed annually as grants and prizes for researchers, students and research projects in various fields.
