Pörsti says that scheduling is very important. When studies are scheduled evenly throughout the year, they don’t cause too much stress, and it’s easier to fully comprehend the issues being studied.
After graduation, Pörsti will become a teacher of biology and geography. Textbooks are crucial for her studies – the Bachelor’s studies feature a minimum of five book examinations. In some biology courses, it is necessary to have a particular textbook. This means that there is a great deal of reading.
Pörsti herself has not had to queue for textbooks, which she attributes to good luck. Many of her friends have had to wait for a specific textbook. The availability of the books also influences their turnover: sometimes students have to return a textbook before they have had a chance to read it all the way through.
Saara Pörsti feels that the textbooks at the University of Helsinki are primarily high quality, and she has luckily managed to also take very new material on loan. Accessing the latest academic knowledge is highly important for studies.
“Outdated information is useless, so it’s important to stay abreast of the developments in the field,” states Pörsti.
