Implement your interdisciplinary project - Apply for Una Europa Helsinki grant!

Have you ever thought of an event, initiative, or idea that you wish would exist? Would you like to develop your skills in cooperation, project management, event planning, communication, and more? Would you like to meet students from different disciplines and create initiatives together to engage the whole university community?

We are excited to announce the very first Una Europa Helsinki student grant scheme for the students at the University of Helsinki! Una Europa is aiming to foster student empowerment and agency and give resources to students to develop the events and initiatives that you feel are missing. If your idea in any way relates to international and interdisciplinary themes, you are most likely eligible for the Una Europa Helsinki student grants! With this grant scheme we are aiming to support bottom-up ideas from students themselves with small grants in addition to supporting you with networks, promotion, and skills needed during your implementation period.

Let's get started

What kind of projects can we do? Are there any requirements?

We fund all sorts of projects. The key criteria are:

  1. It should be implemented during the spring semester 2026 (January-June)
  2. Your team should be minimum four students from at least two faculties
  3. The project should consider (to some extent) interdisciplinarity, interculturality, and be inclusive for a range of students. How you decide to do that is up to you! You can interpret these widely and you can emphasize one aspect more, but you need to somewhat consider them all.
  4. The events should be English or multilingual, you can be creative with multiple language use if you wish!

Please note that the received funding cannot be used to cover the costs of alcoholic beverages.

Who can apply?

Any student enrolled at the University of Helsinki can apply and we also accept proposals from doctoral researchers. You need to find a team of (at least) four people in addition to ensuring that your members cover at least two faculties, to foster interdisciplinary perspectives and collaboration.

You can also apply with your student association or the like, but again, you have to collaborate across faculties.

What do I have to do?

The simple answer is that you have to find some collaborators and come up with a project! You can review all the needed materials and application process  (this will be updated when the application opens).

You can also find the e-form to . The applications will be open from 28 October and will close 11 December 2025. Depending on the number of applicants we are aiming to announce the funded projects before the holidays.

When will I need to implement the project or event if we get funding?

The aim is for you to implement your project during the spring semester 2026 (January-June). This also affects the scope of the project, since you have to be able to implement it during the spring semester. Stand-alone events, workshops, or activities would be good options.

How much funding can we receive?

This is not completely set in stone, but most likely we will be awarding between 500-1500 euros per project. There should be a good reason for the costs of course, but we can be somewhat flexible if a team has a really good idea that would require more funding.

How many ideas will be funded?

This really depends on the number of applicants and the amount of money each group is asking - we have total funding of 10 000 euros for all of the projects. If you want to learn more, have questions, or are looking for collaborators, please join us at the Una Europa Helsinki Info Session for Mini-Grants online on
