How can I take part?

The network relies on active volunteering. If you have ideas for activities, please contact the project's research assistant or any of the founding members of the network!
Email list

You can join the Ecological Humanism Network's email list (eko-hum), where we post about upcoming events and other current issues. All members of the email list can send messages via the list.

It is possible to join the list yourself, but if necessary, you can also contact the project's research assistant by email ().

Reading groups

The Finnish-language reading circle will meet five times during 2026 at the university's central campus. The dates are April 17th, May 26th, September 3rd, October 30th and December 1st. You can find the exact meeting times and locations on the Topical tab.

In the reading circle, we will get to know the themes of ecological humanism based on the participants' interests. After the first meeting, we ask each participant to bring their own suggestions to the reading circle. At the end of the meeting, we will vote on what will be read next. We also encourage you to offer other inspiring advance material – for example, visual art, poems or short prose – alongside scientific articles.

If you have any questions, please contact the group leaders Lotta Leiwo () and Hanna Virranpää ().

We are also organising an English-language reading group. The first meeting will be held on Thursday 21st of May at 15:15, in room B427 of Metsätalo. All questions regarding the reading circle can be directed to the group's organiser Minna Valjakka ().

More information on both groups can be found on the Topical tab.

Seminars

We are organising two guest speaker seminars during 2026. The first seminar will be held on the 9th of June at 12 o'clock and a second one during the autumn semester. We will provide more information about the autumn seminar later.

Researchers Elisa Aaltola (PhD, docent, University of Turku) and Karoliina Lummaa (PhD, docent, University of Turku) and playwright Pipsa Lonka have been invited to speak at the seminar on June 9th. We are also organising an informal hang-out after the seminar, of which we will share more details later. The registration form for the seminar will be sent via the email list closer to the event.

If you are interested in organising other events (e.g. seminars, panel discussions) for the Ekohum network, please contact the project's research assistant or any of the founding members of the network.

Write in our blog

We publish a blog on our website, where experts from different fields are welcome to write about themes that interest them. The target group for blog posts can be a wide range of readers interested in the themes of ecological humanism, such as other network members and research colleagues, students, teachers and journalists.

The text is intended to be a short, general-purpose article that also appeals to others than researchers in your own discipline. The article can be based on an already published article or thesis, or it can be related to your on-going research. The topic of the article can be e.g. an interesting study result or a glimpse into the research process (where the idea originated, how the research process progressed, how the article, etc. was created), a side path that fell outside the actual research, or a reflection on the possibilities of practical application of the research.

The text can present a perspective that attracts people to read the original research. However, the blog post is not intended to be a summary or report of a previous study or article.

You can write in Finnish, Swedish or English. Texts for the blog can be sent to the network's research assistant ().
