Christopher Lizotte is a postdoctoral researcher working on discourses around territory, national identity, and security, and how they are taken up by populist movements in Europe. He received his Ph.D in Geography in 2017 from the University of Washington [State] in Seattle, USA and joined the Institute for Urban and Regional Research soon afterwards. In the past, Dr. Lizotte has written about the governmentality of choice-based school reform in the United States. His current project focuses on France’s unique form of secularism, laïcité, and how it informs French notions of security and territory that have been mobilized by a wide variety of actors.
