The Department of Food Hygiene and Environmental Health carries out research of an internationally high standard. Research and studies in the subject comprehensively cover the diseases caused by microbes and toxins spread to people via foods and the environment. 

The Department studies and teaches: food hygiene, meat inspection and slaghterhouse hygiene, toxicology, environmental hygiene, environmental and food virology and environmental health and food safety control. The teaching provided by the Department is based on the teaching of the Department of Veterinary Biosciences and clinical departments.
