The Building Bridges symposia series is arranged to bridge clinical and basic/ translational research and provide examples of how teams of investigators are working together towards a better understanding of the pathophysiology of disease and improved options for patient treatment and care.
The 7th Building Bridges symposium will highlight current progress of precision medicine and how the big data generated from genome-scale biology will make a difference towards the implementation of precision medicine. We set the stage by learning about the basics: What is precision medicine? How can studies utilizing large-scale genomic/ molecular and phenotype/ lifestyle data leverage the implementation of precision medicine? Then, with research-focused talks from clinical and translational researchers, we explore basic phases and detailed examples of discovery, development, and application in various disease areas. In 2018, the Building Bridges symposium is organized by the EU funded H2020 Twinning project ePerMed ‘Rise of scientific excellence and collaboration for implementing personalised medicine in Estonia’, Institute for Molecular Medicine Finland (FIMM) and University of Helsinki Doctoral Programmes in Biomedicine (DPBM), Clinical Research (KLTO), Population Health (DocPop) and Drug Research (DPDR).
