Registration for the Aleksanteri Conference 2023 is open

This year’s Aleksanteri Conference, held on October 25–27, tackles the theme of decolonizing the countries previously labelled as former Soviet states. Registration for "Decolonizing Space in the Global East – Legal Choices, Political Transformations, Carceral Practices" is available at Early Bird rate until August 31.

The Aleksanteri Conference 2023 will be organized at the City Centre Campus of the University of Helsinki. Registration for the conference is open until September 30. For the Early Bird price, please register by August 31.

As the event name suggests, this year's conference programme is centered around three main topics: political transformations within and between the countries of the Global East, the countries’ legal choices and the factors that have influenced them and the choices behind the carceral practices in the countries.

The conference guests will be provided access to over 250 academic papers presented in dozens of panels and round table sessions with a variety of subjects including knowledge production, memory politics, geopolitics, international legal order, economic interests and economical actions, elections, surveillance, resistance and solidarity, and many more. Over a dozen invited guest speakers include the Professor of Postcolonial Feminism Madina Tlostanova from Linköping University, Professor of Criminology Federico Varese from the University of Oxford and Professor of Law Jeffrey Kahn from the Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law among others.
