The seminar season begins on Wednesday, August 30th with a talk by Dr. Natasha Danilova, who is a Senior Lecturer in Politics and International Relations at the University of Aberdeen. Danilova’s current research project looks into women’s roles as part of war-meaning making in Russia’s war against Ukraine. Her Visiting Fellows Seminar The (in)visible and indispensable Russian soldiers’ mothers and women from military families presents insights from content analysis of Russian official newspapers and popular digital news media outlets Meduza and MediaZona.
The seminar series continues on Wednesday, September 13th by Associate Professor Olena Uvarova’s presentation Russian ‘Patronage Policy’ for Ottoman Christians in the second half of the 18th - the first third of the 19th centuries: on example of Greeks. The historian from Odesa National Medical University’s Department of Social Sciences will discuss the nature of the past imperialistic policies and the parallels with modern times with Russian’s ‘Protective Policy’ for Russian-speaking citizens of Ukraine.
The Visiting Fellows Seminar Series 2023–2024 website is now open! On the page, you will find details about the two published seminars as well as estimated reservations for upcoming events for the remaining academic year.
