The Aleksanteri Institute is raising a new generation of scholars of Russian and Eastern European Studies. PhD students play an important role in the academic community of the Institute.
Finnish – Russian Network for Russian and Eurasian Studies in Social Science and Humanities (FRRESH) is an international programme intended for doctoral students in the social sciences and humanities. The Aleksanteri Institute has also coordinated a doctoral school in Russian and Eastern European studies since 1998. Since 2015, this programme has been part of the Doctoral Programme in Political, Societal and Regional Change at the University Helsinki.
Doctoral students at the Aleksanteri Institute receive funding from various doctoral programmes, research projects and foundations. The Institute facilitates doctoral training both within the University of Helsinki and on the national level. We bring together scholars at differing career phases and promote smooth academic progress – the PhDs who have studied in our programmes have found employment easily.
